Trying to better myself - 90kg -> 75kg

It's shocking how much I have forgotten about nutrition, exercise and healthy living since my school days. They should make P.E. classes mandatory until retirement - we'd all be healthier! :-D

About me:

I'm 32M, height 5'11'', waist 43"/44", currently 90kg and trying to come down to 75kg. For the most parts of 2021 I was 95kg.

My digital scales are telling me:

BMI 27.7 (high)

Fat 26.2% (high)

V-fat 14.0 (obese)

Obesity degree 28.3% (mildly)

Body age (41)

I guess I'm what they call skinny fat.

What I'm trying to do about it:

I recently received a letter from the NHS telling me that a recent blood test indicates that I might be pre-diabetic. I have been reading the NHS website and they say that gradually losing just 5% of the weight will significantly reduce the risk of health problems. So that's basically what I'm working on.

I eat a mostly vegetarian + eggs diet but I am trying to introduce the occasional meat and white fish dish. I also need to do a bit more research on what vitamins I should start taking. Vitamin D is definitely one that would benefit me.

Unfortunately, in recent years and since my injury I've had a very sedentary lifestyle and barely did 3,000 steps a day. However, for the past two weeks, I have been trying to do 8,000-10,000 steps/day. I am also trying to increase the amount of water I drink each day and have started logging it (how people manage 8 glasses of water is beyond me!). This week I have also started indoor cycling but I'm yet to plan my workouts/routine.

I have chronic lower back pain from an injury I sustained a few years ago so I'm slowly taking up exercising. One of my goals is to participate in a 'park run'. Strava (free) has also been good and a source of entertainment as it allows me to spy on friends and indirectly competing against them.

I'm sad that I neglected myself for so long but I'm hoping to change that and put my health and wellbeing first from now on.

Thanks for reading!
