I've struggled with weight most of my life, and have gone through several gain-loss-regain cycles. I don't own a scale at home, so during those previous weight loss cycles, I would typically go it alone (no scale) in the beginning. But after some weight loss, I would start going to the gym, where I would weigh myself to try to track progress better. Counterintuitively, though, I would get discouraged by the numbers on the scale that we all know fluctuate day to day, even hour by hour. So I would always give up, and regain weight.
I've recently (last couple months-ish) began watching CICO and have made visible progress, fitting into old clothes. I want to keep going and keep motivated. Since I tend to be most successful without a scale, I want to keep it that way because the motivation is more important to me than tracking numbers. But I'm curious if anyone else has had long-term success without a scale? If so, any advice? And are there any major downsides to not using a scale that I am overlooking?
