It's so much deeper than just how your jeans fit.

One thing that's beginning to fascinate me is how much spotlight calories seems to get while the microbiome, digestion, hormones and skin health seem be shoved to the background as a marker of good health by the mainstream. They've almost separated calories as it's own version of health removed from everything listed above. Everywhere you look it's calories in/calories out. I'm not negating the utility of calories however as a society we're so obsessed with numbers we ignore actual biological feedback.

Telling someone your body has more information at its disposal to make better food decisions vs eating from a meal plan, clock or whatever someone else recommends is almost blasphemy in some circles. I was guilty of this skewed version of health in my bodybuilding days but as I've aged, with time I've realised your body is constantly supplying you with vital feedback as to what works and what doesn't work for you specifically.

Trying to loss weight without prioritising other health markers outside of weight is like reverse engineering the body. Some people seem to think the default is obesity, diabetes, lack of self control you name it. If that was the default we would of died out as a species a long time ago. Also if you consider no where else in the body is suboptimal conditions are the default. Your body wants to be more healthy than you do. If you include other health markers into the equation I believe people would find it easier knowing what and how to eat.
