“It will be there tomorrow”

SW - 160lbs — GW - 140lbs

Today was a test of discipline for me, and perhaps many of you as well, as this weekend is (Canadian) Thanksgiving. We had dinner tonight, and in previous years the routine was usually: fill up your giant plate with all the fixings, eat, get seconds, eat again, then dessert, often ending in all of us passed out on the couch holding our swollen bellies in regret, well I am happy to say that there was one less swollen belly in the room this time.

As I helped myself to some honey-dijon carrots, roasted brussels sprouts, some yummy fried tofu and onion-gravy I had made to accommodate my newfound meatless lifestyle, I eyed those cheesy creamy scallop potatoes and fantasized about eating the entire pot. I took one scoop, I took a second - as I went for the third scoop that would have probably ruined the weekend for me and put me into a dark spiral of overeating, I paused.

“Relax, It will still be here tomorrow.” I thought to myself, “and everyone knows holiday dinners are even better the next day.”

I put the spoon down, and enjoyed my reasonably filled plate, I logged everything to the best of my ability into my calorie - counting app, and even after skipping lunch, I still had only 25 calories left. The weekend wasn’t ruined after all.

After my family had recovered, it was time for dessert, when I was asked “Mango, will you be having dessert too?”

“No thank you,” I replied with a smile, “I’m feeling pretty full, and it will be there tomorrow.”
