I have a weird background and I don't know where to go. I used to compete in amateur lifting and strongman events. I had a trainer and did a really solid bulk and cut routine, the whole drill, and then I hurt my back. I went from 6-7 days of HIIT in the gym to...nothing. It was really bad.
Throughout it my eating stayed the same and I gained 50lbs. Then the pandemic hit and I had to have surgery, and I started therapy to deal with an unrelated issue, but later realized that I had some really disordered eating habits and bigorexia.
That said, I work in healthcare. I'm still really focused on my own health and I keep up to date on current research. I like to know what is healthy, objectively, and exercise is beneficial. Because of my back though, I'm completely out of where I used to be. I can get about 30-60 of moderate elliptical sessions six days a week now. It makes me feel good but I can't train like I used to.
I want to lose weight in a healthy way and in a way that benefits me. I can't bulk and cut like I used to, and I can't slip back into an eating disorder. So I have the exercise and the diet. I eat a varied range of foods, but I do probably 95% of my own cooking and baking and try to eat ingredients vs. products.
So where do I go from here? Tracking is the only thing I can think of, but that is my only trigger. How will I know if what I'm doing is working? How do I optimize what I'm doing for success?
