Hello lovely people, I wanted to write a message of hope for whoever identifies with the title of this post.
I have over 100 lbs to lose...my BMI is closer to 50 than 40...my waist is over 50 inches...For a few weeks, I've been overeating and not moving or leaving my home at all.
On Tuesday, standing up and walking ten steps made my legs and back ache.
On Wednesday afternoon, I decided to go out for a walk. I was barely able to walk for 10 seconds before my lower back was in agony, my feet were aching, and my thighs were screaming at me.
I was horrified. There was sweat dripping down my face and I was taking such tiny steps because of the pain, unsure what to do as people walked past me with such ease. A walk which would have taken a normal person literally 5 minutes took me 30 minutes with 4 sitting down breaks.
I was genuinely convinced I was so heavy that I was going to break my feet, and I started cursing myself for letting myself get too far gone, so I walked back home. Already though, on the walk back home, I found my back was aching slightly less.
A few hours later, I went out for another walk, this time I was able to walk for 30 seconds before the pain kicked in and I had to lean against a wall. By the end of the few minutes, I was once again drenched in sweat.
On Thursday morning, I was able to walk the 5 minutes from the station to my office without any back pain, only leg pain and foot pain.
On Thursday evening, I was able to walk 7 minutes from my office to a friend's house without any back pain and significantly less sweat.
On Friday morning, I was able to walk the 5 minutes to the office without any back or leg pain.
On Friday evening, I was able to walk 10 minutes to a restaurant with a friend without being too winded to talk, or being drenched in unstoppable sweat, or slowing them down too much, although the fast pace did hurt my legs.
On Friday night, I was able to walk the 10 minutes back with my friend without any pain in my back or legs, barely felt a drop of sweat on my face.
The reason I wanted to share this is because on Tuesday I was terrified. I was scared I'd ruined my body completely; scared to go somewhere walking with a friend because I thought they'd see how unfit and fat I've become; scared I couldn't turn this around.
And yet, with this grand total of less than an hour's worth of walking in just a few days, I feel I've almost completely regained my mobility/ability to do the world's simplest exercise: walking.
I really hope that if you're feeling anything like I was on Tuesday (hopeless, helpless, better off giving up) then this helps you out and gives you some help believing in yourself. I still can't believe how quickly the pain went away. The human body is incredible.
