A trick I've been using on myself to cut down on excessive soft drink consumption

So I've been aiming to cut down on how much soft drink, in particular the Coke no sugar I've been consuming over the years. I know it's not great, but the addiction is real and the motivation was fleeting.

I used to drink about 1-2 litres a day and probably have for the last several years, and most days would be my only fluid intake. It was my source of caffeine, but it only dawned on me this past couple of weeks that I ought to treat it the same way others treat their caffeine hit - like a cup of coffee!

So instead of pouring out a glass of Coke, finishing it and immediately pouring glass #2, I now have a morning cup (and indeed I grab a ceramic coffee cup with a handle) of my version of "cold black coffee" aka Coke. I sip it the way I would a coffee and drink it over the course of at least 5 to 10 minutes, but sometimes longer. But then I stop when the cup is finished. I've had my morning caffeine and I drink water or soda water instead from then on the rest of the day.

If I'm feeling a bit tired I have an afternoon "coffee", again going through the routine of pouring myself a cup of Coke and treating it like a coffee. When I'm done, that's it for the day. 2 cups of Coke a day max, and now I'm at a stage where I get by with just one cup. The initial headaches from cutting the caffeine volume down was tough the first few days but I'm enjoying the illusion. Soon I'm hoping to adjust down to irregular "coffees" and eventually quit it outright.

Whatever works, right?!
