50 yo Male 5’11” SW 290 GW 170
After feeling a drastic change in my body when I retired, it was time for drastic action. I’m a writer and sitting around writing and reading hours on end without any physical activity was starting to cripple me from the inside. July the 4th I made up my mind to go to the gym at least twice a day 7 days a week in order to drastically shift from a sedentary lifestyle into one of activity.
Mentally I was already ready. The same mental fortitude I used to leave my former career behind and blaze a new path as a writer would now be used to ensure that I can live long and prosperous off my work well into the future. My mental mantra for this journey to fitness is the following: I’m already one healthy handsome s.o.b. I just need to get in that gym and prove it to others.
It’s been 2 weeks of 1 hour on the elliptical twice a day and already I’m feeling the positive effects. I can breathe much easier and sleep apnea has receded. I expected the scale to gyrate towards the gain column, however 8 pounds seems rather excessive. I’ll chalk that up to water retention as my body attempts to repair the shock of sudden aerobic activity on its muscles.
I did listen to my body today and took a rest day. Pants and shirts are a little looser, my rest is much more deeper and immersive with absolutely vivid and breathtaking dreams, and there is a level of mental alertness and clarity I’ve only felt while fasting.
I’ve been lurking here for awhile so now was the time I felt to start sharing and eliciting some advice.
