This may sound weird, but does anyone else have trouble sleeping when they start a new diet and fitness routine?

Hi Rockstars,

I'm just curious if anyone else experiences this. I've noticed that I have a lot of adrenaline before bed and trouble sleeping at night for the first month or so after I commit to a healthier lifestyle.

My current situation is that I'm picking myself back up after months of COVID blues and admittedly crappy diet/exercise patterns. My diet consists of just straight-up clean and balanced eating, and caloric intake is averaging between 1500 and 1750 a day. Exercise is 60 minutes of higher-intensity cardio (normally running) and maybe a chill 20 minute walk during one of my coffee breaks x 5 or 6 days a week. The rest of the day I'm fairly sedentary besides doing a bit of bumbling around the house as I work from home. I'm 33 F, 5'3, and currently about 172 lbs.

About two days into this new regime I started having weird spurts of adrenaline, anxiety, and extra energy at night. It takes me a long time to get to sleep, and the sleep I get is pretty broken. I toss and turn a lot and I feel like my brain is constantly "on" if that makes sense. I also have trouble staying asleep. I try to practice good "sleep hygiene" (no screen time right before bed, meditation, etc) but none of it seems to work. I also don't notice this being as big a problem on my rest days.

This isn't the first time this has happened, either! It happens literally every time I re-commit to better diet and exercise. Does anyone else experience this? If so, do you know why? Any advice about how to handle this?

Thank you! ❤
