It's not a competition...unless you want it that way

This is a PSA for the ones starting a weight loss journey. It is okay for you to lose weight at a different rate than someone else!

During the holidays I gained 7 pounds. That was from November to January 4th. It took me 1 entire year to lose 4 pounds, but I was happy because I wasn't going to the gym and of course COVID. 7 pounds during the holidays when I knew I ate pasta, bread, and had many alcoholic drinks. So when I weighed myself on January 4th, I knew I was going to be ok. I just needed to get back on track on my regular eating habits like before the holidays.

A coworker noticed I was drinking a type of coffee that was advertised for keto. I told her I was getting back on track to lose the weight I gained during the holidays, she mentioned she was too. Great, even though she already looks amazing but whatever. Come Monday, she asks me how much did I lose on my first week. Honestly, it took me by surprise because my weight shouldn't be anyone's business. I told her 3 lbs. She went ahead and told me she lost 7.

At first, I was trying to justify to her why I hadn't lost as much weight as she did. Then the more I thought it, I told myself this was never a competition. Losing 3 pounds is amazing since I have PCOS and am taking a new birth control. As the week went by she told me she only eats once a day and is doing keto. Great for her. I cannot see it for myself to be sustainable. I don't know why I started to feel bad about doing things my way. Slow and steady, it took me 2 weeks to lose the holiday weight gain. I should be proud of myself for that. I've never done that before.

YOU DON'T NEED TO JUSTIFY TO ANYONE WHY YOU ARE LOSING SLOWLY. YOU DO YOU.
