In May 2019, I hit about 69-70kgs – I felt like crap, sluggish, tired and slow. Started my weight loss journey with keto with a caloric deficit (around 1200 calories intake) and also utilised intermittent fasting (16-18 hours, sometimes 24-36 hours); this was a recipe for pretty quick weight loss in a short period of time. By June/July 2019, I was around 63kgs.
I then moved to Geneva, Switzerland for work – there, I led a pretty active lifestyle and walking was my main mode of travelling as the city is small and beautiful so walks were definitely necessary, alongside weekend hikes. I didn’t count calories though I made a conscious effort to make healthier choices – that being said, I definitely indulged on Swiss chocolates, cheese, wine and tons of French pastries; also, a lot of drinking nights out with colleagues. Essentially, I lived a good life, everything was done in moderation and I made sure my diet and exercise was balanced. By December 2019, I was 57kgs.
In 2020, I dropped to about 55-54kgs and started weight training as I wanted to build more muscle and drop body fat (body recomp) – my diet was about 1300 calories a day (higher if I was training hard) and I also had plenty of tennis training, at an intense level (2-4 hours a day of drills and hitting). My weight maintained but I found that I looked more ‘toned’. Now we’re in a lockdown and I’ve taken this opportunity to try the PSMF diet – it is a very taxing one and I figured lockdown would be a good chance to do this as I’m on 500-700 calories a day (with high protein intake). It’s been 5 days and I’m sitting at about 53kgs.
TLDR: CICO is key, consistency is key, protein is key, weight training is great for building/preserving muscle mass so you don’t look weak and flabby. At some point, the weight on the scale does not matter much as you can lose inches off your waist and drop body fat whilst gaining muscle (to some extent ofcourse). Shit gets hard but it’s worth it – I never thought I would get to this point but here I am! Hope this helps anyone in a similar position.
