Advices on buying an used treadmill?

Hi everyone, I hope it’s okay to post this question, I’ve used the search function and didn’t find exactly what I’m looking for so here we go.

I’m trying to find an inexpensive treadmill to keep my 8k steps daily, mainly for walk and light jogging. Potentially more jogging in the future if I’m getting stronger and lose some weight. I don’t want to invest too much at this point since I don’t need all the fancy functions (iFit and such), but I also don’t want to get something break on me within a few months.

I’ve found a few used Pro Form from FB market place, it’s one of the brands my friend recommended will last. But I can’t find any reviews online since they are all old models like 545, 1000LT, 745cs, do they worth buying for the $100-$150 price range? (None of the sellers know how to find the total minutes/mileage on the treadmill.

More advices I’m hoping to get are: 1) what would I ask the seller to find out the condition of the treadmill, like minutes/mileage, how old is it, etc? 2) what brand/model should I avoid? 3) is a lightly used Horizon RST 5.6 (11yo) worth $350? 4) is it better/worse to buy a $300 ish new treadmill from Amazon than a used name brand? 5) which one is easier on knees, treadmill or elliptical?

Anything else you’d like to suggest? I’m a total newbie in workout but I’m making baby steps and I’m determined! Thank you for any inputs! :D
