My health care provider recently recommended a Vit D test, given the COVID orders- and I certainly am outside less. It came back that I am deficient in Vit D, which I sort of shrugged off, as something like 80% of Americans are Vit D deficient. I dragged my feet on getting a supplement, and just did not take it seriously. I eat fairly well, and already take a multivitamin, so another supplement felt superfluous.
Well, I was wrong. I took the 5000 ius recommended by my provider to bring my levels back up for the first time last night. And then went on to start my second evening snack, and found my appetite was gone. For the first time in maybe ever, I was not hungry. I normally graze all day- because I am craving just a little more food all day- so this was quite weird. Several hours later, I also noticed a dull ache in my legs that I’d chalked up to aging was also gone. I was so used to this ache, I thought it was a normal feeling.
I haven’t experienced satiety without being overstuffed in so long, I am really shocked. I am reading that Vitamin D is important for leptin, the satiety hormone, here: https://brainmd.com/blog/9-vital-functions-vitamin-d/. I don’t know if that is what is happening, but I am SHOOK.
I hope this helps someone else as well. Maybe it is no coincidence that the majority of the population is struggling with being overweight and the majority of the population is Vit D deficient. I just can’t believe I am satiated and all it took was some Vit D gummies.
