Hi all,
My doctor told me I had gone from pre-diabetic to just diabetic and I got the whole "the talk", so I started to try to do harder.
I find motivation is being able to see my results, which might work for others if anyone is interested. I keep a spreadsheet with a bunch of graphs and charts showing me how I'm going, and this really helps keep me on track. I highly recommend this, as seeing the progress every week when I weight myself really helps keep me going and focused. Happy to share the spreadsheet if anyone thinks it would be useful to them.
Practically, I did three things. 1) I started intermittent fasting. I do 16:8 so I only eat between midday and 8pm each day. 2) I cut all processed carbs out of my diet. I really miss potatoes and rice and bread, but I can still eat brown rice and wholegrain pasta and bread, so it's not too bad. 3) I joined a gym and have been doing that pretty regularly. I focus mostly on cardio, and have worked myself up from collapsing after 2 minutes on the rower to being able to do 20 minutes hard row and then straight onto the treadmill for a 10 minute brisk walk on a 5 degree incline. I then do some resistance stuff, although that varies, really the cardio is what I'm there for.
I started at just a hair under 130kg (286 pounds) and yesterday at my weigh-in I was 110.9kg (244 pounds).
Anyway, that's my story. I'm hoping to reach my goal of 85kg (Lets say 185 pounds) in another 5-6 months or so. That still leaves me with a BMI of 28, but BMI doesn't seem to work for me - to get my BMI below 25 I need to be under 76kg, and at that weight I am extremely gaunt and too skinny.
