Why do people freak out being hungry after four hours since their last meal?

I had breakfast today at 1pm (late breakfast) As of writing this, it is 6pm, and I'm starting to feel hungry. I know it has been five hours, but I swear there's people out there who will act so shocked that they are hungry. Don't they understand that we eventually digest food?

Sure I understand the frustration if it's an hour or two later, but four or five? Am I just not understanding what the issue is?
