I see a lot of posts everyday where people are wondering what they do after they’ve lost the weight. Or are worried about putting it back on again. Worried (scared) they won’t be able to do it. Worried that they’ll have to count calories or be on some fancy arse diet forever. Worried about loose skin. Or other people and their reactions.
I figured since I’ve been there and successfully done it for many years I’d post some ideas to think about.
1) Once you reach a weight you’re happy with, choose a ‘goal weight range’. I chose between 63 -68kg. (This means I don’t have to buy new clothes either as it seems to be the range in the size I buy).
2) Count every second day for the first few weeks. Keep an eye on your weight (weigh every week). If you feel ready, count every third day. And so on.
3) If you find yourself passing the goal weight range then spend a week refocusing (counting every day strictly).
You will figure out pretty quick what works and what doesn’t.
Begin weight training to build muscle (lots of protein and heavy lifting). Increases RMR and means you can eat more and stay in maintenance. Walking or some type of cardio will help your mental health along with helping to burn extra calories.
Your skin may be a little loose. I’ve found that it tightens a little. Also building a foundation of muscle will improve the appearance. No cream or oil will help - don’t waste your money. If it’s a real big issue seek help from a surgeon.
Most people will have an opinion on your weight. They comment that they think you’re getting too skinny. Or that you’ll fade away if you’re not careful. This is more on them than you. Most can’t match up what they’re used to seeing with what they see in front of them. Most will eventually forget you ever looked any different. New people won’t even know.
You will get judgement. You have two choices when people comment. The first is ignore it and laugh it off (I appreciate your concern but I’m fine). Or you can tell them where to step off less politely. You have to chose.
The key is mindset and determination. Enjoy your new body - it’s the most amazing feeling.
