i keep self sabotaging and i have no idea how to get better.

i (17f) have been overweight/obese my entire life. it started since i was very young and i never knew how it was to eat normally because my parents honestly didn’t either. my parents both had a shitty relationship with food and it’s obvious it rubbed off on their kids bc we’re all pretty overweight.

i have been trying and failing to lose weight since i was about 13 years old and i’m very educated on healthy weightloss, the only problem is: everytime i am doing well i always feel too comfortable and end up stopping because my brain is telling me there’s no point in continuing if i’m just going to fail at some point. it’s been like this for years and it’s honestly really tiring. i know i’m capable of doing it but i just get too scared, this also happens when i’m depressed and start feeling better. i always fall back in because i have a feeling that i’m going to be depressed again anyways and it just keeps going in a vicious cycle.

i have been thinking about this recently and where my behaviour is coming from and i honestly think it’s from the constant emotional abuse from my parents and them saying things like “you will never be better”, “all you do is eat and sleep, there’s no point in trying” etc. i think it’s great that i’m figuring out where this all stems from but i honestly don’t know where to go on from here.

sorry this is long and messy but i appreciate any words of advice that you guys are willing to give me. i’ve been lurking on r/loseit for about a year or 2 now and it’s amazing how much it’s helped in the past.
