Lost 88 pounds and now I can finally dance again!

I’m one of those people who gained a lot of weight during the pandemic. My mental health got worse as well and I basically abandoned most of my passions, including dancing. Last December, I noticed that it was getting harder for me to move. My breathing became heavier whenever I was climbing up the stairs and my foot started to become painful after standing/walking for at least 15 minutes. That stuff made me remember how I was so active before and passionate about dancing. It sparked something in me so I immediately laid out a plan for me to lose weight.

What I did first was to do a calorie deficit. I’m surprised by how many calories my favorite foods have. At the most, I consume around 2,800 to 3,500 calories a day. I gradually cut them down to 2,000 and tracked everything using myfitnesspal.

Next, I slowly made myself physically active. What I’ve noticed is that some people tend to do complicated exercises to lose weight quickly, but on my end it didn’t work since my body is still adjusting to the sudden activity levels from my then sedentary lifestyle. I made sure to warm up and stretch first before working out (VERY important!). Later on, I got myself a flow rope (an OctoRope, specifically) to improve my coordination and to increase my heart rate during warm-ups. It really helped me a lot to get back on dancing again since I was able to do routines that involve whole body movements, just like dancing! Compared to other ropes, it’s way heavier which also helped me tone my muscles.

I’m still doing all of these to reach my goal weight and I’m only 15lbs away from achieving it! Getting back to the dancefloor is so exciting and this also seriously improved my mental health. I also love how my plan helped improve my overall health as well. I can now walk/jog 10km, move around without catching my breath, and no more random pains on my body.

If you’re still here, thank you so much for reading! This sub also helped me a lot so please continue inspiring people!
