It's about time I took my health seriously. Here's my plan (feedback appreciated)

I've always been relatively fit, but not because of actually trying or handwork... I just have good genetics. Over covid I let this get to my head and basically didn't do shit. I thought that I could play video games all day and eat like shit without any consequences. Well last week I put on my jeans for the first time in months (the same ones I've had since high school) and the fucking button broke. Literally the metal part snapped right off.

Since then I've gone to the gym a couple of times but didn't do shit because I was too nervous. I've never actually been to the gym seriously before so I don't know proper form or how to do anything right and I feel like a dumbass and don't want to look stupid.

Anyways... I guess I'm writing this more for myself as a commitment to finally take my health seriously and actually workout and eat right for the first time in my life. It's time to change everything: habits, diet, fitness, and mindset.

My stats:

  • Male
  • 5'8"
  • 202 lbs
  • Fat % about 36

Goals:

  • 165 lbs
  • 15 %
  • The above within 6 months (hopefully)
  • Cut sugars and sweets completely

My Plan:

  • Workout in the gym 3 times per week (+1 after first month or 2)
  • Cardio / running / swimming at least once (+2 after first month or 2)
  • Track my form and count my reps every workout. This is something I need to take very seriously since I don't really know what I'm doing in terms of form
  • Keep a weekly workout log and review my progress daily
  • Keep a food diary and actually stay on top of my nutrition
  • In relation to the above I might invest in a meal prep or delivery service. Not sure what's good though. I see HelloFresh talked about often?
  • Generally take an interest in fitness and health. To do this I'm going to replace Twitch time with fitness videos. Kenobody and Athlean are some of the channels I see recommended most

My Workout Plan - Month 1:

  • A simple total body workout, switching off between two routines (will put this in my workout log and track daily)
  • Barbell squats - 3x5
  • Hip thrusts - 3-4 x 10-12
  • Bench press - 3x5
  • Pullups - 3 x 2-5
  • Farmers carries - 3x4 of 25 to 50 steps
  • Face pulls - 2x10

Then B day is as follows:

  • Deadlifts - 3x5
  • Lunges - 3-4 x 10
  • Dumbbell shrugs - 3x10
  • Rows - 3-4 x 10-12
  • More farmers carries - 3x4 of 25 to 50 steps
  • Dual hip press - 2x12

And that's basically it. If anyone actually reads this I'd love any feedback or suggestions. I'm scared as hell to start this new journey but honestly it's time. If I really want to be happy then I actually need to do something about it. If anyone's interested I can post updates of my workout log and food diary, or maybe just make them public somehow.

Let's do this!
