This is my first time posting so I’m a little nervous. I’ll add some background before I start since I think the thought process is important too. I’m currently 35 years old, have a great job, am engaged, and life overall is great. When I was 28 (7 years ago) I was in grad school and started exercising (2 days a week) at a pole fitness studio and I was in the best shape of my life. I am 5’6, had lost 16-17 pounds and was sitting at 135 and built amazing muscle. That being said, I moved back home where the job market for me was rough, I was miserable and living at my parents house again, no friends around with zero access to the exercise I once loved and worked so well for me, and I gained all my weight back plus some.
Once everything turned around and I got a new job, a new life and moved out again I weighed myself and had gone back up to 163, Which was 12 pounds heavier than when I was 7 years ago. Per my parents, suggestion, I started using the fit bod app they use. I started serious exercising 5 days a week January through March of this year, but with work getting busier it slacked off from 5 days to a bit more sparse exercise, but I at least have maintained and didn’t gain. I don’t drink soda or eat fast food, I cut back on the carbs and alcohol (weekend cocktails occasionally was the norm) and my exercise is getting my heart rate up by mixing cardio moves with weight training. I’ve lost 10 pounds during this up and down time but now I seem to be stuck at 153.
It’s tough to try and not compare 7 years ago to now, and my weight loss then was when I walked everywhere for school in addition to 2 days a week of exercise, and I lived alone and wasn’t worried about cooking for other people. My fiance’ now exercises with me 3 days a week after work (I do 2 morning days when he rests) and he has always eaten what I cook for us, (which is high protein, low carb, drinking tons of water) but i’ve really have been discouraged at not seeing the number change in the past several months.
I’ve stopped sacrificing my mornings to start work early so I can work out, and I see my body changes , but ideally i’d like to lose 13-18 more pounds. Maybe this was more of a venting post, but i’m sure i’m not the only one who has seen a longer lasting plateau. Thanks for reading.
