I miss eating at my local places

A few years ago this sub helped me lose 50lbs. Two weeks ago my son and I went to the waterpark and I found out he'd gained a lot of weight. When we got back home the scale proved it. I'd honestly gained back some over Covid so on the way home we decided to lose weight together. I taught him what I learned about CICO years ago and he was interested. He bought some food scales and we've been tracking our calories in a spreadsheet.

I'd forgotten what I missed the most while dieting, however, which is not being able to eat things where you can't track the calories. No small businesses tell you the nutrition information or the ingredients. There are some things at my local sub shop I could probably dismantle and weigh the components, but how do I tell how much mayo they put in the tuna salad? I could probably eat smaller portions of the spinach feta calzones from my local Italian place if I knew how many calories were in each piece. There's a food truck right across the road from us that makes $12 plates of lamb, falafel, rice, lettuce, tomato, and onions. It also has a creamy sauce that I'm sure is high in calories. We already stretched those plates for 2-3 meals but maybe I could still eat it over 3-4 if I knew what was in it. The supermarket mostly has the nutrition information on their packages (or something I could look up) but not on everything. They have prepared foods that we used to get often but we can't eat them if we don't know what's in them.

I suppose this is a lesser problem than most people have but it's frustrating to me.
