As someone who never works out, how do I start working out?

Not sure if this is the right sub to post this in but I like you guys (long time lurker)

Hello! So with quarantine I fell off-track and gained a little weight. Before, at my lowest, I was 120lbs, I'm a woman, 27, and 5'6. Recently I weighed myself and was 150. I started eating a bit better overall but have been staying around 140-145. I've just been checking the calories in everything and trying not to eat too much while making healthy choices because that's what worked for me before, I just (so far) haven't been as restrictive as in the past.

And I've been thinking about joining a local gym, they're affordable and have a convenient Thursday - Sunday package that would be most convenient for me as I'm actively moving during the week on my 9-hour shifts and wouldn't want to go to the gym those days anyways. But I'm so lost on what I would even do there. I've also considered just buying a treadmill or stairmaster to have at home. I'd just like to burn more calories / possibly tone up all over but I'm also nervous about possibly going to gym and suddenly using all the machines trying to do everything.

I'm typically 'lazy' and used to be able to eat alright and mostly maintain and look fine but now it catches up to me more. I never really worked out aside from moving a lot at jobs, I used to move a lot playing Pokemon Go as well.

Anyone been in a similar boat and have any advice? I'd really appreciate it!

[Footnote disclaimer] I'm well aware I'm still in the 'healthy' BMI range for my height but I personally feel better weighing a bit less, and I also want to fit back into all my regular clothes comfortably and not have to buy all new everything.
