This is my (M, 26, 6,2", SW 282, CW 272, GW 190) first time posting here, and first time trying to lose weight. I gained a bunch of weight during/after college from eating out and drinking too much. Fast food and soda were definitely the biggest contributing factors. Then a couple months ago, I went to the ER for stomach pain and found out I had pancreatitis. Made some doctors appointments and find out my cholesterol is very high too, and I need to change my diet and lose weight.
I had made some half-hearted efforts before, but I never had a defined goal or strategy, just "I'm going to eat out less" or "I'll eat more vegetables. This time, I started logging calories, threw out most of the junk food, and filled the fridge with vegetables and chicken breasts. I started bringing salads and lettuce wraps to work with me instead of going to the drive thru every day. I switched to diet soda (that alone probably cut out 500 calories a day, I have a weakness for Dr. Pepper. Working on weaning myself off of soda completely.) My diet was so bad before, that just switching to the same amount of healthier food put me in a pretty big deficit (I'm shooting for 1600 cal/day, hitting between 1500-1700 in practice).
I'm about a month in now, and yesterday I officially hit the 10 pound mark (even after having some delicious barbeque and potato salad on the fourth.) My belt is 1 notch tighter now, and my wife is noticing changes. (She's on this journey with me, and down 12 pounds herself!) But the best part is I just feel better. I'm in a better mood, I'm more motivated, and I just generally have more energy. Not sure if it's the better food or the missing pounds, but I'm loving it and super motivated to keep going!
My first big goal is to get below 250 by my "wedding" in November (Covid messed that up BIG TIME, we already did the paperwork, just need to have the party now) since that's about where I was at when I met my now-wife.
