NSV - I didn’t have the beers

NSV I didn’t have the beers

Even though they would have fit into my calorie count for the day, I decided not to have them tonight. Even though I also REALLY wanted one.

One of the major things this journey has done is seriously make me reevaluate my relationship with alcohol. I wasn’t a huge drinker but I drink pretty regularly and I realised I was starting to become dependent on it. To the point that I would often undereat or exercise specifically to “earn” my nightly wine or beer.

The other thing going on this journey has done is make me have a LOT greater understanding of my cravings and triggers. And I want to get those under control. So, even though I wanted it, and “technically” I could have fit a couple of beers in, I refused to give in to my craving. I simply said no, and went for a walk until the feeling passed. Because I want to be the decision maker. I also want to make sure that I’m focusing on nourishing myself, not just fitting foods into my budget.

This isn’t to say tomorrow, or the next day, or the day after that, I will also say no. Because sometimes it’s good to a) give in a little, and b) let go and then reset. But today, I said no.

I know that Easter will soon be upon us, and I’ve always been unable to resist creme eggs and marshmallow bunnies at the checkout. I literally don’t eat sugar at any other time. So part of my reasoning tonight was to begin training my brain to say no. Because one once a week isn’t going to destroy me, but one every time I’m at the shops or servo will.

Similarly, I like chips. Especially with beer. And especially on a weekend. And it’s not about never having those things. It’s about control. And me being in charge, intentionally, about when I will have those days.

I’m taking back control. One moment at a time.
