Calories vs Calories from macros?

Hi everyone! I would love some advice about calorie counting for those of you who have been doing this a while.

I order a lot of meal prep from small/medium-sized businesses, and they provide the macros as well as the calorie count. Out of curiosity, knowing that carbs and proteins are 4 calories/gram and fats are 9, I've been calculating the calories based on the macro counts and found that it sometimes varied from the provided calorie count by as much as 100 calories. (And the company I use the most frequently actually straight-up writes, "### calories; ### calories calculated from macronutrients").

My dilemma is that I can't tell what's more accurate, because I'm not sure if the 4 cal/gram thing is a rougher estimate, or if calorie info on packaged foods is more of an estimate, generally. In this situation, would you recommend just logging the higher calorie count? Or is one known to be more reliable in general than the other?
