Am I doing the wrong thing for weight loss?

Hi! I just turned 16 12 days ago, and I’ve been trying to lose weight. I’m currently 175cm tall and weigh 88kg. I’ve stopped doing sports in 2018, but since September 2019 I’ve started practicing Karate 3 days a week, which is a full body workout including cardio for 1,5 hours. Next to that I also have PE class for 1,5 hours, and since January I also started going to the gym for the 2 remaining weekdays, training on average 1 hour in the gym.

In total I worked out/went to sports 6 times a week including PE, and when I started out in September I weighed 85kg, and in March when lockdown came I weighed 81kg. During this time I never worked on my eating habits, but I did lose weight and became lean (I even received comments like “wow, you’ve lost some weight and look great!”)

During lockdown my workouts went down to zero, and I gained weight until now, now I weigh 88kg. I’ve recently started doing full body workouts again, in combination with also trying to eat healthier. Last week I didn’t workout as much because of the extreme heat in my area, but I finally could do one pull-up yesterday, which was quite the accomplishment for me.

My main question is: should I even be doing full body workouts? Am I focusing on the right workouts? As I’ve done workouts again for 2 weeks now, I’ve noticed a lot of muscle building up, and I’ve seen myself become visibly more lean again, but I did not lose even the tiniest bit of weight. Is this because I’m doing full body workouts that build more muscle, which leads to me not losing as much weight? Could I be losing weight more effectively?
