Let me preface by recognizing that bodies vary wildly and that every persons experience is different. I’m merely looking for a general answer out of basically just curiosity.
I’ve always been overweight. I can never remember looking at myself in the mirror and being impressed with my body, and during quarantine I hit 300lbs, and decided it was time to change. I have a muffin top, and this past year I’ve even noticed some major stretch marks across my abdomen.
I started tracking calories way more, fighting the urge to eat without thinking, etc., and I’m on track to have gone down 10 lbs by Wednesday (a month from when I started), which I’m ecstatic about. My current goal is 230, but really I’m just calling that a reassessment point, because I think I’ll probably want to lose more after that, I’ll just need to take a look at what that will actually be like.
So my question is, how much can I expect my body to change as I lose weight? I’m not looking for or expecting a model body, but is it reasonable to expect the skin around my abdomen to shrink as I lose weight? How much do stretch marks stick around when people lose weight? I feel lucky that I’m taking these steps while my body is still young, but I don’t know how much of an impact that will have on the bounce back that my body can make.
Let me also note that I’m certainly not going to be disappointed whatever the result is. As much as I’d love to have a body comparable to movie stars, I’m losing weight because I know it’s easier now than it will be down the line, and I don’t want to run into health complications later because I was lazy.
