help losing weight as a picky eater

hey everyone.

first post here, i’ve gained some weight over the last two or three years (not morbidly obese, but certainly pudgy) and i’ve wanted to lose it again so i can fit in my old shorts, and not feel embarrassed wearing tight shirts again.

SO much of the advice here is diet related. i’m 21 and i’m a horribly picky eater. it’s my biggest insecurity by a long shot. i can’t stand most veggies, and texture is a big issue for me which really limits what i can eat. when i say picky, i mean like, if i try to eat lettuce i’ll literally gag. i struggle to swallow it. i don’t like beans, seafood, quinoa, brown rice, leafy greens and other veggies, and some fruits, among lots of other things. i don’t even like whole grain bread. i try to like various foods (admittedly i could try a little harder, but i tried some calamari again today - still don’t like it) and i’ll try to leave some lettuce on sandwiches and i’ve been eating more fruit lately, but it seems to be getting me nowhere.

so what i’m asking is: what can i do? i want to love all foods and eat salads and stuff like a normal fuckin adult, but i can’t stand most food. i don’t know what to do, and i feel helpless to be honest. it probably seems silly, but please be kind.
