The unexpected consequences of not eating ice cream every night?

Growing up my mom was overweight and always had to have a bowl of ice cream after dinner. As I’m grown into adulthood and am nearly 30, this is still one of the more unhealthy habits I just cannot seem to kick. I’ve tried various things over the years (just having a piece of dark chocolate, “low calorie” frozen treats, etc) but I always go back to ice cream.

Regardless I’m trying a new approach this time (I’ve actually told myself I get a “guilt free” $5 if I can go the entire week, Monday-Friday, without). I have a hard time spending money on myself without feeling guilty. Not on purpose, I’ve actually seemed to replaced ice cream with reading lol reading more is a resolution of mine so now I go up to my bed and get into bed to read for a while.

Anyway, I did it this week. After eating a pretty solid amount of sugar over the 2-3 weeks prior with the holidays- holy shit, have I noticed a difference this past week.

First, it really is true in my case that if you can get past the first few days, the craving goes away. Sugar is such an addiction.

Second, I’m having less nightmares. I don’t think this is necessarily all because of less sugar, but I’m not eating it right before bed and my body isn’t digesting that dairy, so maybe it plays into it.

Third, my appetite has been noticeably less this week.

Again, I’m definitely no expert and just try to listen to my body and it seems to have had a good week without a bowl of ice cream after dinner every night! Just wanted to share. Cheers!
