Weight Loss for Everyone: I think more than anything people in general need to work on getting more comfortable with being hungry.

I think more than anything people in general need to work on getting more comfortable with being hungry.

I'm not fit, nor do I eat particularly healthy. I'm 28 now but when I was 19, I weighed around 260ish and I'm 5' 9" so definitely quite husky for those proportions' ha ha. Anyways I got kicked out my house at 19 because I wasn't progressing in life and had to live with my grandmother for a while. While I was living with her, I would do yard work every day and I would eat what a 65-year-old woman eats. So, as you may have guessed after 3 months, I lost 20 pounds which was the first time in my life I realized it was possible to lose weight and I wasn't doomed by genetics.

Fast forward a year and a friend of mine showed me Keto which took me even further. I also started going to the gym somewhat regularly thanks to finding a friend who wanted to go with me. I've been wanting to get back into it but for the last few years it's been difficult to do so. Fast forward to 28 I sit around 170 pounds give or take here and there.

I was pondering it for a bit as I'm watching friends and family try to lose weight, and what the big difference is. While I think particular diets can be helpful and eating healthier meals is great, I think the primary thing most people struggle with is being comfortable being hungry. For example, it is difficult to overeat when following Keto somewhat strictly. It was during that time that I started to get more and more used to feeling hungry.

What I've noticed with friends is if they miss a meal, they get almost irrationally angry or upset, or get put into a foul mood, pretty much "Hangry" if you will. For me it's been so long that I don't remember if I used to feel this way or not. I certainly feel a bit more drained, but my mood doesn't swing. I think this notion has been reinforced by companies, marketing, government, and society in general. "You should have three square meals a day!" I think this can be good for a growing child but even now we're starting to see younger and younger bouts of childhood obesity I myself am not excluded from that demographic.

Basically, it all comes back to portion control I suppose. I no longer adhere to a specific fad diet although I do try to watch my carbs and sugar somewhat, but I just really keep in mind what I'm eating I essentially ballpark my calories mentally. That being said had I not learned to deal with hunger it would probably feel impossible because there are days where it feels extremely tempting to cave in especially when you do feel hungry.

I guess it's just some "food" for thought.
