I know I haven't been counting calories for as long of a period as others, but I was getting mentally exhausted from all the counting. I decided to test a two week break from counting and discovered the following:
- Despite not counting, I was no longer attracted to fast food. Before I started counting calories, I used to go and eat fast food at least 3-4 times a week. I was surprised that I didn't have any urge to eat junk anymore! In fact, I just ate the same food that I learned how to cook while I was on a deficit. I just probably ate more. The same went for soft drinks. I no longer felt the urge to buy a 1.5L coke and drink it for every meal; I just had water and it satiated me.
- I definitely had a mental reset from it. I feel so much more invigorated to start again to be able to reach my goal weight (only 6lbs remaining!).
- I could no longer tolerate eating junk for long periods. Even when I tried to eat like two cookies, it felt like my body was somehow rejecting it? I'm not sure if it's psychological, but I definitely couldn't even finish one cookie. It felt like the sugar didn't sit well in my body anymore. I was also surprised because I used to be able to sit down and eat a whole 10-pack of the same cookies!
- Surprisingly, by the end of the two week period, I didn't gain any weight at all. I even lost a full kilo.
I am back to tracking now to be able to lose the last kilos remaining. I'm not really sure if this break from counting calories would be beneficial for everyone. It did extend the time it took to reach my goal weight, but it was very much needed. I'm very excited now to go back to my deficit to eventually reach the goal weight!
