I used to be a heavy drinker. It happened pretty gradually but one day I was only drinking at social gatherings, and before I knew it I was putting away 4 to 5 heavily mixed drinks every evening. Not even good ones either, I would mix like 3 to 4 shots of bottom shelf whiskey with a splash of diet soda (yeah, diet soda, I know). I did it for years. Then I tried losing weight and thought I could somehow do both. I was wrong, so I cut it out almost completely a few months ago.
Every single night I want to drink, but I don't. I have been to 2 events in the past three months and I over did it, lapsed a little bit, but got back on the horse after a day or two. Tomorrow is another event where I want to drink and I'm sitting here telling myself that I am only going to drink 2 beers. I'm really trying to focus on not screwing that up, because I don't want to be rid of alcohol entirely, I just have great difficulty moderating it.
For those here who drink, how do you incorporate it with your diet or routine? Do you exclude it entirely? If so, how are you dealing with it?
