Reached Onederland!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Weight has crept up over the last 5ish years, and much worse the last year-and-a-half (COVID hell, kids at home, personal and professional struggles). But after focusing more for the last couple of months, this morning I reached onederland! Hooray! Here’s what’s working for me:

  1. Switching from Lexapro to Wellbutrin. I think this was huge. Saw a new PCP for the first time in literally a decade, who raised the flag that Lex may not be right for me. She was accurate - I think Lex made me lethargic and caused some weight gain. And Wellbutrin is working just as well and helping with cravings.

  2. Being prepared for quick lunches and snacking. This means on Sundays boiling and shelling a dozen eggs to grab from the fridge in 10 seconds whenever I’m hungry. Also make a giant salad (lettuce and veggies) to just put together quick salads for fast lunches (at the last minute I’ll drop in some nuts, maybe clementine slices, some shredded cheese, and S+P, olive oil/balsamic from right next to the stove). Also healthy snacks at the ready (individually packaged cheeses, fruit, apples, baby carrots). Trying to generally stay low-carb. When I make food for the family, I’ll skip the starch.

  3. A little intermittent fasting. Brush and floss after dinner to avoid late snacking (only tea or la croix if I want). Then skip breakfast (just coffee with sugar free creamer or milk).

  4. Looking forward to something. I’m planning a girls’ trip soon and each time I consider giving in to a craving, I imagine being on the trip and feeling overweight, sweaty, ashamed and unhealthy when I should be enjoying the trip, time with friends, and joy.

  5. Weighing myself every day - same time, before showers. Log in MyFitnessPal app. I don’t even bother with food logging since I don’t have time and that stresses me out, but at least holding myself accountable a little has helped.

  6. “Moving my butt.” A vlogger I like said she hated putting “exercise” in her calendar or planner, but “move your butt” is funny and seems easier. I now take many, many walks with my dog (long, short, some jogs). This accomplishes a LOT. I get vitamin D, a break from work, a break from sitting at the computer, time to meditate, listen to music or a podcast, or call a friend. Plus the dog is happy. Also do at least a 200 at the pool when my kids are swimming/playing. I just try to MOVE MORE and see it as killing many birds with one stone - helps both my physical health but mental as well.

That’s all I can think of! But I was so enthused I just wanted to share. Thanks for being a great group.
