I'm currently on vacation. I've been really watching what I eat, but it's been quite difficult to guesstimate. Already, I've been having a tough time because I'm not sure what's been going on with my weight gain- I've been eating very healthy (veggies, recently started incorporating carbs like overnight oatmeal, fruits, etc) but I had gained almost 6 pounds in 4 days- i had lots of stevia, maybe too much salt, but also began to do more intense exercise, too. I wasn't sure if it was muscle gain/water retention, stevia bloating, upped intake of carbs, etc. I'm not sure what is going on, as I was staying within my calorie deficit, using the food scale to weigh out grams, etc. Suggestions?
Another thing: I've been trying to maintain my weight on vacation and lose. Eating on small portion plates, going for food items to nourish me (salads, fruits, eggs, fish, etc)- indulging in small things like only having 1/2 of cookie, only some sips from calorie rich drinks, etc. I have not been able to weigh myself lately, but it looks like i've gained another pound. During the trip, I've upped the intensity of my exercise routine- I exercise every morning for about 30-40 minutes (cardio/running, HIIT, Strength/core yoga) and I burn around 300 calories, my watch tells me around burning 500+ Active calories by the end of the day. I've been very active, walking 12,000-14,000 steps daily (yesterday i walked 18,000 steps and hit a new record of 850 active calories burned!) but today I wasn't feeling good and took a rest day. I was still active but only burned 530 calories and my resting burn rate sits around 1100.
I had a heavier breakfast (around 600 calories) skipped lunch but a lighter dinner (wasn't feeling well, a banana and a croissant with jelly, shared some small portions of green beans/rice, chunks of chicken etc), and we also had a chocolate, coffee tour which involed eating or drinking some samples (i had no idea how many calories, I estimate around 400) then we went out for dessert. My family shared, but had the majority of a tres leches dessert and a chocolate lava cake with ice cream!!! 😫 I hadn't had dessert throughout this vacation (only treating every few days, w/ half a cookie or around 1/2 cup pina colada a few days later), i was so excited!
I definitely think I overindulged. What should I do to rebound/lose? Increase exercise tomorrow? Fast? Have much smaller portions for meals? I'm just so confused about everything! Thank you for your input!
