[Rant] How can you be fat if you are a Vegetarian?

I have heard this so many times when I go out of India to a Western country. You can be very fat if you are vegetarian if all you eat is high carb high oil diets that Indians have.

In India a lot of liberals make fun of vegetarians calling them backwards, uneducated, religious hicks. The opposite of what vegans face in the West. Standard recommendations from many fitness experts is to start eating meat if you want to gain muscle or lose weight. I guess it also works in the same way vegan diets work in the West. By changing your diet while counting your calories you lose weight. I have gained 50 pounds over the years and I have lost 50 pounds by following a traditional Indian vegetarian diet

So all meat eaters out there and all vegetarians and all vegans out there don't listen to anyone that says you need to eat meat or stop eating meat to lose weight. There are a lot of good reasons to be vegan, losing your weight isn't one of them. The only thing that counts is counting calories.
