Waking up starving

I’m 5’5”/160 lbs and eating about 1500 calories a day. I work out a lot and on those days I net my calories and eat above 1500.

I’ve been having this problem where I’ll wake up in the middle of the night starving. This isn’t cravings, it’s hunger pains so bad I can’t get back to sleep.

I get up, eat about 100-150 calories of whatever (usually something healthy like a piece of bread with sugar-free peanut butter or a banana) and then I can get back to sleep.

What is this? Does anyone else have this? Is my body freaking out? Am I doing something wrong? Also, it’s really throwing my daytime calories off.
