I can’t eat sweets in my house

I have a history of addiction in my family, and many years ago came up with a rule that I would only drink if it is free or a holiday. That means no buying alcohol for myself, and I only drink at basically weddings or other social events with an open bar.

Since starting this journey, I’ve realized I need to set a similar rule for myself with sweets, which is: I can only have sweets when they’re free, and I can’t have them in my house. That means no driving through for doughnuts or getting a quick chocolate at the check out counter. It also means not eating any of the sweets that might be brought into the house.

Has setting rules ever worked for you? So far this rule is working for me!
