Targeting calories AND protein

Hello everyone,

Long time lurker here. I’ve recently hit my highest weight of 333lbs, and quite frankly it’s time for me to lose weight. I’m a drastic person that gains and loses very fast sometimes. In spring of 2018 I was 255lbs. So in a year and. A half I’ve gained about 80. This is not shocking to me, as that has been my life story.

What I’m looking for discussion and feedback on is balancing protein vs calories. I always get tripped up on this and use it as an excuse to fail. I’ve gone low calorie before and lost 50lbs, however In the last year or so I’ve become concerned that I don’t eat enough protein when doing low calorie. I’m constantly battling that desire for both, and end up failing.

Does anyone have any experience eating little protein when dieting? Did you lose a lot of muscle? I do want to prevent muscle loss as I want to eventually have muscle in my ultimate goal. Do I forget about muscle now and fix it later? Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
