How to deal with aches and pains from excercisng when overweight?

My left knee and leg overall has been sore and achey. I only walked for 30 min today and yesterday on the treadmill but I'm sedentary and overweight. Is there a way to mitigate pain? Should I get a leg brace? Are there specific stretches I can do?

I think part of the issue is my leg posture. Essentially given my weight I stand and walk crooked causing stress on joints that maybe wouldn't typically be there. I do have very flat feet which I'm sure doesn't help.

I don't want aches and pains to be an excuse to not continue exercising even if for a day. I'd like to walk 30 min each day on a treadmill if I can.

Should I opt for an elliptical instead?
