I’ve been lurking here since the beginning of 2021, and I’m officially down 42 lbs (5’4”, F, SW 197, CW 155). When I started losing weight, I read some advice here that was: instead of aiming for x daily calorie deficit to lose x*7/3500 pounds a week, to instead calculate the TDEE of the weight I’d like to be, and then just eat that way forever.
This was such an amazing mindset change for me! I have been steadily losing weight all year and I also feel like I can keep this up for the rest of my life. It’s been a genuinely easy process - and my hunger signals have recalibrated too. Before I was regularly overeating and feeling sluggish (not binging, just by mindlessly having an extra slice of pizza or a too-big snack) and now I just feel… good.
The other thing that has helped is just putting more effort into eating better - and not even just healthier, although that’s part of it. I’ve been home a lot this year and have had the time to spend a little extra effort cooking, so I’ve been using fresh garden produce and improving my cooking skills along with adjusting my portions. It’s been really nice, and I honestly feel lucky to have been able to rethink my relationship with food and level up my cooking skills!
Anyway thanks for the motivation, and special thanks to the person who gave me that advice. COVID definitely scared me into losing weight, but I feel so much better now.
