I know the title of my post is going to cause people to come out and say "BS, if you were eating so few calories you would be losing weight" I beg of you to please hear me out.
32 F/Starting weight 350lbs/Current weight 250/Goal weight 150/5'4
For some background I have type 2 Diabetes, I had a gastric sleeve surgery done March 2021, and I have an illness called cyclical vomiting syndrome.
In September of 2020 I had hit my highest weight and after trying to lose weight during quarantine with no success I decided to pursue bariatric surgery. I went with the sleeve and the surgery was pushed back multiple times but I got it done in March of 2021. During Fall of 2020 I started having a bout with CVS (cyclical vomiting syndrome), which had me hospitalized (actually admitted for multiple days, not just in the ER) that lasted from October 2020 until July 2021. Thankfully I have not been back to the hospital since July.
Before my surgery in March I was able to lose 50 pounds and on the day of my surgery I was 301. Given my starting weight, my surgeon and dietician expected me to lose quite a bit of weight but it has been painfully slow and I have lost nowhere near what they expected in these 6-7 months. It has been incredibly frustrating because I see other gastric sleeve patients losing what took me 6 months to lose in 2 months or less.
More importantly, though I was losing slowly at least I was losing somewhat consistently every month, however in July it suddenly stopped. I got down to 245, then it suddenly went back up to 250, then in August I just kept bouncing around from 250 down to 243 then back up to 250. I just CANNOT get out of this rut and it has been almost two months of this.
I am at a loss currently. I use a calorie tracking app to track every meal. I use an OXO kitchen scale to weigh everything that goes into anything I eat or make. I double check that the nutrition info and portion size on the labels of things matches up to what I am inputting. My health is currently my full time job and what I put all of my energy into, I am VERY sure that I am in fact consuming around 1000-1100 calories on average per day, give or take a bit for errors I am sure.
I know that those online BMR/TDEE calculators are supposed to help you get in the neighborhood of what deficit you should be eating at but I decided to pay at multiple places to get an RMR CO2 test to see what my BMR actually is and I was pretty shocked. Given my weight and height, they expected my BMR to be around 1800 but it is actually 1230, the other two places I went to had very similar results. Assuming I was sedentary, it said I would need 1353 calories to maintain my weight. If I wanted to lose weight it would be -250 calories.
Even with this incredibly low BMR, I am still consuming less calories than it would require than needed to lose weight but here I am hard stuck at 250 and it is driving me crazy.
I know this post is long winded but I am really trying to get some help or guidance. A few more things:
I drink about 70 ounces of water a day
If I dip below 800-900 calories a day, I find that I feel incredibly feint and weak. When I stand up I get dizzy, my blood pressure becomes very low, and I just generally feel crumby.
All of my blood tests thus far have been perfectly normal. In fact, on paper I am SUPER healthy. Nothing is elevated, my blood sugar is excellent, normal cholesterol, etc.
I have heard anecdotally that CVS can mess with one's metabolism, but don't know for sure.
MY primary care physician is at a loss and wants me to see an endocrinologist. I have an appointment to see one but they are all so booked in my area that it takes months to get in.
