I really need to hear that there is a way to loose weight during primenopause and menopause.
I'm a 34 year old female. I'm healthy and I'm on no regular medications.
Menopause has always been something looming in the back of my mind since I was a teenager due to the weight my mother gained practically over night.
My mom has always been the type to cook healthy stuff and teach us good eating habits. She always used a scale to measure portions and taught me and my sister how to do so. She is also active and still is and walks to places instead of taking public transportation. Soda is not a thing in our house. We drink water and juice was always treated as a treat or snack.
But when my mother hit primenopause in her 40's, her weight began to balloon out of nowhere. She was still eating the same and same activity level. I can tell you she was not snacking or sneaking food at night as someone was always home and I get weird periods where I can't sleep and stay up late sometimes for weeks which often happens in the winter time.
She tried cutting out every snack food from her diet, even if it didn't go over her allowed calories and she had some to spare for the day. She started going to the gym. She also limited herself to 1 meal a day which was dinner.
Despite all her efforts, now at 66 years old her stomach is very big, I don't want to be mean but to give everyone a idea she looks like she's 9 months pregnant. She's been checked for any underlying conditions but full checkups show no issues in her blood, urine or any issues with her thyroid or anything.
She said she was hoping this would never happen to her as all of the women in her family have this happen to them in menopause and can't make it go away no matter what workout or diet they stick to (and my mother has maintained what I mentioned above since her 40's).
This has me dreading menopause, I keep seeing it as the period where I just have to watch as my weight balloons no matter how little I eat and how active I am and just until I look like a pregnant woman and nothing can stop or prevent or reverse it no matter how hard I might try sort of not eating. As the only time my mother did see a noticeable drop in weight was when her mother passed away suddenly and could hardly even eat the one meal she allowed herself because she was so upset.
With the pandemic my mothers weight has gotten worse as she spent most of last year in the house to avoid exposing herself unnecessarily. I did the same and I noticed weight gain on my own end which didn't help my worried of the future. My thighs have gotten thicker, I have love handles and my belly is bigger, my upper arms have gotten bigger along with my backside. There are also fat rolls on my back now that I try to flatten by wearing my bra tighter by putting the band on the last hook.
