Is there an advantage to lifting while very overweight?

I've read accounts by people and theories that lifting while very fat and in a deficit is a benefit opooddd to a slimmer person who lifts in a deficit, as the fat is used as fuel/energy. Which helps overweight people gain strength despite being on a cut.

Is there truth in this?

I'm 6ft 2 and 245lbs and am running a 1000 cal deficit. About 30%+ bodyfat, I have a lot of fat and wonder whether such a deficit may not be that detrimental to me (for now) for these initial stages. It's my hope that I can gain strength while at this weight and then when I'm leaner say 190lbs, slow down my cut to a 500 deficit.
