Hello all,
As the title says, I’ve been having trouble figuring out how to reach out to my 17 year old sister (I’m 28 years old) regarding her weight. She’s a shirt size 2XL and definitely struggles with unhealthy habits (not big on health foods, over snacking, no exercise drive, horrible sleeping schedule).
She’s a wonderful spirit, but I’m having trouble bringing up her weight and bad habits without sounding like I’m scolding her or judging. I was gone for college and starting my career from when she was 7-14 years so I wasn’t there for a lot of her formative years (my mom didn’t graduate middle school and works tirelessly so she couldn’t provide much more than necessities)
She recently moved in with me and I try to subliminally get her into healthy habits by asking her to accompany me on my daily walks, cooking healthy foods, and being open about mental health. Still, she’s eating ramen or Cheetos at 10pm, ignores roasted veggies or healthy sides, and doesn’t show interest in exercising. She’s been to a nutritionist with my mom so I know she’s aware of what she should be eating.
Guess what I’m asking is: How would you personally wish someone would approach you about your unhealthy habits when you were personally avoiding them? Has someone approached you in a completely unhelpful way before? Was someone able to get through to you in a way that felt constructive and not destructive?
Thanks for listening to my rant. And wish you all the best in your LoseIt journeys!
