I've been struggling with my weight for much of my adult life. I was pretty healthy in the army but college and then a life of startups got me to about 300lbs (I'm 5'11") pretty quickly. I love eating. It's my comfort, and I would eat junk food any chance I had.
When I hit 30 I realized how bad it had gotten and managed to lose much of the weight by about 35 through a combination of exercise and better eating. At my lowest I was around 200lbs and under 10% body fat.
Got married, had a kid, founded another start up and by the time I hit 45, I was back at 250lbs. Had a cancer scare last year and decided it was time to get back to focusing on my health. My job is less stressful, my kid isn't keeping me awake, I have time to exercise and I want to feel better. I don't want to feel like I do right now when I have trouble sleeping and I'm also vaguely uncomfortable.
I've been experimenting with various things over the past year and I think I have a plan that works for me.
So here I am. This is my first post. Not sure what I'm looking for. Advice and support I guess. My plan is:
- Focus on my sleep. At least 8 hours every night.
- Exercise once per day. Alternating one day of weight training with one day of cardio. Plus one day a week of sleep.
- Rather than focusing on the negatives I want to add positive habits. So drinking more water and eating healthy tasty food. I made a list of my favorite tasty healthy foods and I'm trying to eat one for every meal.
- Track food intake using an app called Loseit
- Post here to get advice and support :)
I'm at 245lbs. It's day 1.
