GAINING weight in a calorie deficit?

So to preface, I’m a 22 year old, 6”4 male that weighs 196-200 pounds. I had surgery on feb 20th that took me out of the gym for 4 weeks, so I basically walked outside everyday as exercise instead (5-6000 steps). I recently started resistance training again (about 2-3 times a week), as well as bike riding for 30 min (2-3 times a week as well).

My issue is that despite eating 2500-2600 calories a day for the past two weeks, I’ve GAINED 5 pounds! Last week I was 196, and tonight I weighed myself at 201 pounds...

I know that weight can fluctuate, but I expected at the least for my weight to go down a bit or stay the sameish given the time of day I weighed myself (at night). I did have a burrito for lunch so I don’t know if water retention can make you hold onto 5-6 pounds of weight (I doubt it), but this is just so unmotivating... I’ve stuck to my diet better in these last two weeks than I have in a long time, and to see the scale go UP so much is just super disheartening. I did read that resuming working out can cause muscles to retain more water, but I don’t know if that holds any truth. I’m honestly at a loss for what to do next, I’m worried that my efforts are wasted. Anybody have any kind of experience similar to this?
