I have patellar tracking disorder which is when the knee cap shifts out of place as the leg bends or straightens. It can really hurt sometimes— I hurt it today walking down stairs carrying a vacuum cleaner— and makes cardio especially difficult.
It started hurting 5 years ago in a dance class after I hadn’t worked out for months and had gained some weight. Over the years I have gained 50 lbs. Every time I work to lose weight to strengthen my leg muscles and reduce the strain on my knee joints, I can do cardio for a little bit, but my knee starts hurting again and I have to rest again, causing me to gain more weight.
I love running and would love to get back into it. The doctor said Patellar Tracking Disorder usually gets better on its own, but it hasn’t gotten any better for 5 years going now. Anyone have any advice?? I’m at a loss right now. I want to lose the 50 lbs I gained.
