I have a pretty straight forward question: Does anyone have any tips on how to deal with a stressful environment that really messes with your digestion?
Until a few days ago, I hadn't even considered that my environment had any sort of impact on my digestive system, but the evidence I am gathering is becoming more and more conclusive.
The environment I am currently in at my apartment is the following: I live with a couple who pretty much run the house and I am just kind of trying to not get in their way, be as quiet as possible and work around their schedule constantly. I cannot go into the kitchen while they are there, because I might interrupt them doing... well, something. It doesn't help that our kitchen doubles as the living room and as such, they spend hours there every evening. I also don't have a real door to my room, so everything I say, they can hear and everything they say and do, I hear. There's also no way to lock it and my roommate has a habit of just barging into my room which keeps me on edge constantly.
Another issue are cockroaches and mice. Luckily, the cockroaches limit themselves to the kitchen, but the mice are usually entering the house through my room which means that I often wake up to the sound of scratching, something going through my garbage or a mouse chewing on my table.
I knew that all of this had a horrible impact on my sleep, I wake up several times every night, can't get a good nights sleep and constantly feel tired and wiped out. Now that I am removed from that environment for a few weeks, I sleep like a baby and I also feel the effects on my digestion. Back where I usually live, I always feel terribly bloated after everything I eat, have to be super careful, am constantly in pain or constipated and so on, it's hell. Right now however, I can eat as much as I want and don't experience any sort of bloating or discomfort, regular bowel movements and just generally feel much greater about my body. Even my weight is super stable despite me currently eating like a lawn mower because I want to enjoy all my favorites and honestly, after months of discomfort from eating anything, being able to enjoy food again makes it so much more enticing.
Does anyone have any tips on how I could try to minimize this constant stress on my body once I return to my apartment? Maybe some small tricks that could help?
