I started Lexapro in March (conveniently when 2020 went to sh*t) to deal with my anxiety disorder. I was trepidatious going into it knowing a huge side effect is weight gain, and while it has helped tremendously with my anxiety (yay), I gained about 10 pounds in the process making me feel uncomfortable in my skin and my clothes fitting way too tight now. I think the gain is from a combination of things: increased appetite due to medication, less concern about body image at times and a general feeling of "F it" mixed with being concerned about my body (that's my anxiety), moving very little while working from home, wearing lose fitting clothing, and working out way less out of laziness. I realize this is a stressful time and I try to have compassion for myself, but at the end of the day, I want to wear my jeans again and not feel like i'm about to rip the seam.
A little background–I am at the very top of my healthy BMI range for my height/age, but I prefer to be somewhere in the middle. Over the years I have tried many things (Atkins, CICO, Whole30). I have the most success with CICO but can never seem to keep it off. In Aug I started to lose the weight I gained but lost motivation and that "F it" mentality crept in and I gained it back. I also seem to have a hard time with CICO now because I feel even more hungry and my daily calorie allotment doesn't feel like enough.
This week I charged up my FitBit and committed to 10k steps a day. Doing more yoga as a start to ease back into working out. I can already feel a huge difference, but I know diet is what really makes this stick. So I would love to hear if anyone has had success and/or any tips?
