I used CICO in 2010-2012 to go from 195lbs to 135lbs. I maintained 140-150lbs (which still looked good on me since I'm tall) for about 2 years before steadily gaining after a career change to a desk job and unlimited free snacks at work. Surprisingly, I was bike commuting for ~1 hour every day up a 700ft hill in the evening during that time so it was all just excessive overeating. I also had a kid a few years ago which added even more and lead to cutting out bike commuting which was my only source of exercise as well. I reached a peak during lockdown of 226lbs after stress eating about the pandemic for months before "hitting rock bottom" and deciding to make a change. I've been working out everyday for at least 30 minutes for 18 weeks and am down to 211lbs. It's not as easy now though. I feel my age (30s) and life/aches/responsibility much more now. I just finished a food sensitivity cleanse in early January to really assess what foods irritate me. From that experiment, I've decided that I'm planning on following a no caffeine (already did the brutal detox process so not going back), no dairy, low sugar approach.
I just wanted to confess my story and make it real and stop living in denial. I don't know. I just feel sad I gained it all back, but I guess that's life. I really focused on my career and made strides there, but lost my health in the process.
Let's do this!
